Moss

On the nature trail we saw Ragweed, some berries that were blue and purple and a Red Maple tree. We saw a lot of  moss. It was in a lot of  different  colors like orange, green and brown. We saw Touch-me-nots . They are also called a Jewelweed . When you touch them they explode out their seeds. The picture is something that looks like lichen. I love the nature trail!

The Carrion Beetle

Yesterday we went on the Nature Trail. On our way I saw a Carrion Beetle. It was pretty big for an insect. It was brown on the top and yellow on the bottom. It also had a big black dot in the middle of it’s head. It was a type of  beetle that liked to eat leaves. Just like a caterpillar. It also can jump very far. There were two of them. It looked kind of like they were fighting. They looked a little different. But for the most part they where pretty identical. Some species bury a dead animal and lay their eggs on it giving the lava a ready supply of food when they hatch. Adult Carrion Beetles also visit decomposing carcasses, and are the most effective natural controls of maggots (fly larvae).

Bird houses

On the nature walk I saw a bunch of bird houses. I think I saw about eight bird houses. They were all in different places. They were all in a tree. Some were up high in a tree and some were down low in a tree. I wish I new what kind of birds lived in the bird houses.

The Nature Trail

On the nature trail there were lots of things. There were some bricks shaped like stairs. At the end there was a person’s backyard. We went the long way. There were berries, flowers, and Touch-me-nots. The thing I don’t like about the nature trail is the poison ivy. I popped some Touch-me-nots on the nature trail. Touch-me-nots have green pods that pop when you pinch them. There was a black beetle on a Touch-me-not plant. Soon we had to go back. It was very interesting.

A Dragonfly And A Carrion Beetle

I saw a Dragonfly on the Abbot nature trail. A dragonfly  has a slender body with two pairs of wings, of approximately equal length. There is no other insect like it. Dragonflies  hold their wings flat. Dragonflies eat many flies.

I  also saw a Carrion Beetle on the Abbot’s nature trail. It was hiding on  a leaf. The Carrion Beetle was very large. A Carrion Beetle can be red or yellow. Sometimes when a Carrion beetle sees  a dead animal it will lay its eggs on it.

The Nature Trail

One day in September we went on the Abbot Nature Trail. Our class saw a red maple tree at the start of the trail. Also, at the start of the trail there was a trail sign that was brown and white. The letters were capitals and white and the rest was brown. When we went into the trail it was almost covered in poison ivy and we had to step over it. We also saw Touch-me-nots and my teacher had said we could touch them. When we went out we went to a stream and around a loop. I love the Nature Trail.
