The fern looks like a tiny forest tree. The leaves look like they separate into small leaves! The stem is very thin, most people don’t like these little plants in their garden because they spread and keep growing.

Wild Geraniums
Wild Geraniums are related to Filarees. They usually have about five petals. They can be pink, white and lavender. They bloom in spring and early summer. There are only about 10 species found in the east.
Celandine
Cedlandine is part of the Poppy family. It’s in bloom April – August. It’s habitat is moist soil of roadsides. It has four petals. It’s range is Nova Scotia, New England, south to northern Georgia, and west to Tennessee and Missouri. It has lots of seed pods in June.
White Buds
A tree we found off of the nature trail has white buds. The buds are fuzzy. The sticks are reddish-brownish. We found the tree on its side. The tree is pretty big. It got knocked down by the big ice storm.
On The Nature Trail
When we went on the nature trail I saw a tree house. We saw lots of Touch-me-nots. If you touch them they pop open and spread their seeds. We saw a mushroom. It was very big!
Dock
Dock can grow almost everywhere. Dock seeds are smaller than popcorn kernels and are shaped like 3D hearts. In spring the dock is green and changes to red when it gets colder outside. It can grow 30 inches tall and its leaf is shaped like a narrow shield. Geese ducks and other animals eat it.

The class is trying to figure out how long our days are. We noticed that the days of sunlight are getting shorter and shorter. We are also tracking the temperature at 8:30 AM every Thursday. On 8/28/08 the sunrise was at 6:05 Am. The sunset was at 7:25 PM. We had 13 hours and 20 minutes of daylight. At 8:30 the temperature was 68 degrees. On 10/30/08 the sunrise was 7:15 AM and the sunset was at 5:41 PM. The time of daylight was 10 hours and 26 minutes. The temperature was at 20 degrees F at 8:30.
