The Downy Woodpecker

On the nature trail I saw a tree with holes. They were woodpecker holes! It was from the Downy Woodpecker because they live in our area. They are a common breed of woodpecker in our area. They are about 5 in. and 3/4. Males have a red spot on their head, females do not. In the winter they often visit feeding stations for food. You can identify them by the white stripe on their back. Now you know about the Downy Woodpecker.
